What is happening, and why?
Aqua has contracted with Phoenix Fabricators and Erectors, LLC to install new elevated water storage tank, commonly known as a water tower, next to the Beau Rivage Golf & Resort driving range.
Why is this project important?
This elevated tank will assist in water pressure, water quality and reliability of your water service. It is one of the many projects identified in The Cape Water System Comprehensive Master Plan to ensure reliability of the system with the new growth and redevelopment happening in the area.
We need to invest in water infrastructure to keep pace with population growth, meet regulations, supply you with reliable water and provide you with a great customer experience, protect public health and the environment. A master water system plan is a road map for projects that will maintain and improve water supply in your community.
It is important to note that not all development is part of the master plan because some neighboring communities, like the Riverlights, is not served by Aqua.
What will this tank look like?
The structure is a steel spheroid design with a single pedestal that will be about 140-feet tall and will be painted a light color to blend in with the sky. The tank will hold 500,000 gallons of water and is an approximately $3.2 million dollar improvements in your community’s water system to help ensure strong water pressure, water quality and reliability of your water service.

How did you pick the tank location?
Elevated storage tanks are most effective when located at a higher elevation, using gravity to our advantage. This project location was chosen because it is one of the highest spots in the county, and it is located on Aqua’s property next to our existing ground water tank. We used state-of-the-art hydraulic modeling to create the master water system plan, and it also confirmed this is an ideal location for an elevated storage tank.
Is this project safe?
The tank is designed to meet all local, state and federal building requirements using engineering best practices and design specifications.
In addition to required inspection from New Hanover County, Aqua has contracted with an independent third-party inspector to ensure compliance. After construction, our operations and compliance teams will provide regular maintenance of the structure and sampling to meet water required state and federal water quality standards.
When will the work take place?
The project will be starting this month, and it should take about one year to complete. Once construction starts, Aqua will post project updates on our website on our Aqua NC page.
Work hours are typically between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
How will construction traffic get to the site?
Construction traffic will be using the main entrance at Beau Rivage Dr. and travel on a designated route to the project site. Concerns about construction traffic should be reported by contacting us toll free at 877.987.2782, or by filling out our online form at https://www.aquawater.com/contact-us.php.
Will there be any work on my property?
Work for the construction of the elevated tank will happen on Aqua’s property. Other water main projects may happen at the same time as this project to upgrade sections of the existing system and connect with this project. Aqua will provide separate notification to customers prior to the start of water main projects in the system.
Will my service be interrupted?
This project will not require the water to be shut off. However, if an issue arises during the work, it may require that the water be turned off to complete the repair. Aqua notifies customers of planned and unplanned outages by phone, email and/or text message with WaterSmart Alerts. Sign up for WaterSmart Alerts, update your contact information and view our Service Disruption Map at https://www.aquawater.com/service-alerts.php.
Will the project affect my water quality?
The quality of water should not change during construction, if there is a complete loss of water pressure in the distribution system, we will issue a System Pressure Advisory.
We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this period. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us toll free at 877.987.2782, or by filling out our online form at https://www.aquawater.com/contact-us.php.
